Geocaching is a great way for the whole family to get active and out and about for fresh air, walks and fun.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. All you need is a GPS device or a GPS-enabled mobile phone so that you can navigate to the cache, and a Membership, which is free!

There are many different types of Cache, ranging in size from a tiny film canister to a full-on metal army ammo box. The aim of the game is to use your GPS to find the container (usually very well hidden) and the rules are to take something from it and leave something of equal or greater value. There are often kids’ toys and interesting items in the caches’, such as Travel Bugs who work their way round the world in this way! Often there are log books in which you can write a quick hello and then, when you’re all home in the warm again, you should login to the Geocaching site to log your visit.

We have been doing this for many years – the children love being able to look for the containers and everyone gets fresh air and a bit of a walk.

We’d love to hear how you get on!
