If you’re winding down today and want to keep activities with the kids low key, we have this week’s game ‘Flip the Fish’. Also, can you believe it’s almost the end of January already? Hope you’re all sticking to your new year’s resolutions. It’s not to late to get back on track if they’ve slid a bit in recent days!
1. Each player tears out a simple fish shape from one page of their newspaper. The fish should be about twice the length of your hand. Don’t worry if it’s not very neat.
2. Everyone rolls up their newspaper tightly and puts their fish in a line on one side of the room.
3. Someone says, ‘Ready, Steady, Go!’ and everyone uses their rolled-up newspapers to fan their fish across the room. You do this by hitting the newspaper against the floor, just behind the fish.
4. The winner is the person whose fish reaches the other side of the room first.
If you’ve got lots of time on your hands the children can be more accurate with the shape of their fish and can colour it in or name it before the race begins!
